                      The Pastor’s Perspective:
Why Do We Crucify Him Again?

              I say something rude
              to someone who’s lost,
              And I’ve ruined my witness,
But they will pay the cost
….So I nail in the nails.

Can anyone see the Lord through me?
Or do they simply see my sins?
Am I living the life Christ wants me to?
Am I living the life of man?
….So I plunge in the spear.

And when I fail to pray,
and my conversations with Him fade,
Does He patiently wait for my call?
              Though it causes Him pain?
….And I place the thorns upon His brow.

I lead a life of double standards,
One day good, the next one bad.
              Can He quietly stand by?
When He sees all I could have had?
….And I ridicule my Lord once again.

              For you see,
Each time we turn our backs,
and return to the world of sin,
It is then that you and I,
              We crucify Him again.

Hardeman Helps:

It has been a dream of several folks for a long time now to serve Hardeman County in a similar way as the way Lake County is being served by Reelfoot
Rural Ministries.  A talk session was held on Sunday afternoon, March 7th at Bolivar First for interested parties to discuss the idea of trying to put this
thought into action.

Reverend Sandra Leatherwood had some statistics regarding poverty levels in Hardeman County and shared with us that this county ranks number three as
the poorest county west of Nashville.  After more numbers and more discussion she proposed that the United Methodist churches of Hardeman County
band together to try and make a difference with some action.

It was proposed that we have a soup kitchen that offered a hot meal once a week to anyone that would come through the doors.  Sandra said her church
has made the commitment to offer the use of their facilities for three months.  It would be a cooperative effort of all the United Methodist churches and only
take about six people to staff each Saturday.  The times would be from 11:00 am till 1:00 pm.  We would have tables available to explain about Angel Food
Ministries and possible free legal advice and other services.  Adrien Curry was given the task of collecting ideas for names and we should have one by our
next meeting.  Sandra said all the county pastors were behind this effort.

There will be another informational meeting on Sunday afternoon, March 21 at 2:00 pm at Bolivar First United Methodist for anyone that is interested in this
project.

Angel Food Ministry:

We’re now entering our third year as an Angel Food Host site.  We seem to have it down to a “science”, but let’s not forget that we are not just serving
food to our customers, but the love of Christ to everyone who comes through our doors.  It gives me such a warm feeling each Distribution Saturday that
even though I’m NOT a morning person, I actually look forward to seeing the smiles on all the volunteers’ faces as they prepare to unload the truck, pack
up the boxes and then welcome our customers and deliver their food to their cars.  You can feel the Spirit working here at Middleton on D-Day and that
Spirit just multiplies as more and more folks come in.  What a blessing!!

In case you’d like to know some of the numbers.  Here they are:  We’ve been participating for 32 months.  We have sold 2,897 total units of Angel Food
including specials.  We have a database of 344 customers that have ordered from us at least once.  We average 90 boxes and specials per month since we
began in August, 2007 although our averages of late have been around 75.  One of our Angel Food customers has become a member of Reaves United
Methodist Church.  We have made countless friends in the community and have helped many, many families with their monthly food budgets.  We stay in
touch with families that we have become aware of situations where they need not only help with their food, but emotional help.  ANGEL FOOD HAS
MADE A DIFFERENCE!!!

Thanks to the UMW for faithfully providing a box of food for a family in need on a monthly basis almost since we began this program.  There have also
been “secret Angels” that have given boxes so that families in our area could have food.

If you know of a family in this area that could use a box of food, please let me know and I’ll make sure they get one.  We’re very discreet and make sure
everyone keeps their dignity in those situations.

Thanks again for allowing me to follow my passion as your Angel Food Director.  I’ve been seen around town and called the Angel Food lady.  I kinda like
that title!  I’ve sure been called worse!

Easter Egg Hunt on the Farm:

This year we’ll be breaking with tradition and taking our young people to Falcon Ridge Farms on Highway 18 to hunt Easter eggs and visit a working farm.
There’s a petting zoo, hayride and lots of room to run and play.  We’ll be leaving the church on March 27th at 1:00 pm and plan on being back around 4:00
pm.  Any and all are welcome.  Adults be sure and bring your cameras to take pictures of your children with the Easter Bunny who is going to be there.

Lakeshore Fundraisers:

Due to the tightening of our budget, we had to make some cuts and our Lakeshore budget was one of them.  In an effort to offset this budget cut, the youth
have had two fund raisers to supplement their costs for Lakeshore summer camp.

So far they’ve raised $720 from a Pancake Supper and a Lasagna Dinner.  There is at least one more fund raiser planned, a car wash, with the date to be
announced.  Let’s all come out to support these kids so they can enjoy the great time they will have at Lakeshore this summer.

Reporter Time:

It’s time to sign up for our Conference newspaper, The United Methodist Reporter.  Roy Hornsby is our church representative this year and has the
subscription forms.  Just fill one out along with a check for $20 and keep up with the news in our Memphis Conference during the next year.  Don’t
conform, transform!  Sign up today.

UMW News:

The ladies of the UMW were busy bees when it came to Haiti relief.  The call went out for Hygiene Kits and they answered.  We originally planned on doing
20, but ended up doing 55!  This is a working group of gals.  Hope none of you needed a pair of clippers because we bought up the supply in the Middleton
area for a while! 

We’ve since heard that now they will need Birthing Kits due to the unsanitary conditions after the earthquake, so we’ll be starting that project in the near
future.
We’ve been sponsoring a young missionary couple in Sierra Leone that works with the Peanut Butter project each month.  One of the other District Lay
Resource Leader’s, Mrs. Elyse Bell, came and gave us a program on this and it struck our heart so much that we have adopted them as one of our own.
We are truly a connected church.

Our group also supports Reelfoot Rural Ministries and provides a box of Angel Food each month to a local family.  We may be small, but we try to make a
difference.

If you’ve never been to one of our meetings or haven’t been in a while we’d love to have you back.  We meet again on April 13 at 7:00 pm.

Week.

COFFEE FILTERS

Coffee filters.... Who knew!   And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones.

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome...  Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.

3.  Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.

4.  Protect a cast-iron skillet.  Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

5.  Apply shoe polish.  Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

6.  Recycle frying oil.  After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

7.  Weigh chopped foods.  Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

8.  Hold tacos.  Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

9.  Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.

10.  Prevent a Popsicle from dripping.  Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.

11.  Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken  fingers, etc on them.  It soaks out all the grease.

12.  Keep in the bathroom.  They make great "razor nick  fixers."

13.   As a sewing backing.  Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliquéing soft fabrics.

14.  Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors.

15.  Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.

16.  Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.

17.  Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies..  Saves on having extra bowls to wash.

18.  Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.

19.  Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.

20.  Use them to sprout seeds.  Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout.

21. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers.  Place the flowers between two coffee

filters and put the coffee filters in phone book..

22.  Use as a disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc.
